Quick answer
A project management template pack is a set of ready-made documents for each stage of a project. This free pack has 30 templates in Excel and Word, from the business case and charter to the closure report, and every one downloads instantly with no email or account.

Which template do you need at each project phase?
The table maps every template to the phase where you will use it most. Initiating has 5 templates, planning has 10, executing and monitoring has 10 and closing has 5.
| Phase | Templates |
|---|---|
| Initiating Decide whether to start and authorise the project | Business Case (Word) Feasibility Study (Word) Project Charter (Word) Stakeholder Register (Excel) Kickoff Meeting Agenda (Word) |
| Planning Define scope, schedule, cost, roles and controls | Work Breakdown Structure (Word) Gantt Chart (Excel) Project Budget (Excel) Risk Register (Excel) RACI Matrix (Excel) Communication Plan (Excel) Resource Plan (Excel) Quality Management Plan (Word) Procurement Plan (Word) Change Management Plan (Word) |
| Executing and monitoring Track progress, issues, changes and decisions | Project Status Report (Excel) Project Dashboard (Excel) KPI Tracker (Excel) EVM Tracker (Excel) Budget Variance Report (Excel) Issue Log (Excel) Decision Log (Excel) Action Item Tracker (Excel) Meeting Minutes (Excel) Change Request Form (Word) |
| Closing Accept, hand over and learn | Project Sign-Off Form (Word) Project Handover Document (Word) Project Closure Report (Word) Lessons Learned Register (Excel) Post-Implementation Review (Word) |
How do you choose the right template?
- Start from the decision you need: approval needs a business case or charter, control needs a register or log, and closure needs a sign-off or closure report.
- Pick Excel for anything you update every week, such as risks, issues, actions and budgets. Pick Word for documents that are approved once, such as plans and reports.
- Keep registers separate: an issue log is for problems happening now, a risk register is for things that might happen, and a decision log records what was agreed.
- Use only what the project needs. A small internal project may need 5 or 6 templates; a large one may use most of the 30.
