03 · Demand

Is PMP in demand in Pakistan?

Yes. PMP is widely requested in Pakistan’s IT and software export sector, telecoms, banking, construction, energy and donor-funded development projects, and it is often required for project roles in the Gulf. It is also still relatively rare: PMI reports that South Asia has about 100,000 active PMP holders and India holds about 96% of them, so Pakistan and the rest of the region share the remaining few thousand.

That scarcity is an advantage. A PMP on your CV helps you stand out for project roles in Pakistan’s IT exporters and multinationals, and for roles in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar, where many Pakistani project managers build their careers.

✦
Where PMP pays off most for Pakistanis: IT and software houses with foreign clients, telecom operators, banks, construction and energy projects, development programmes funded by international donors, and jobs in the Gulf.
04 · Salaries

Payscale figures are based on self-reported salary profiles. Pay varies widely between government roles on fixed scales, local firms and IT exporters or multinationals.

The biggest salary jump for many Pakistani project managers comes from moving into Gulf roles, where PMP is often a requirement. Compare countries in our project manager salary guide and see PMP in the UAE.

07 · The exam

Where to take the PMP exam in Pakistan

You can sit the PMP exam at a Pearson VUE test centre in a major Pakistani city, or online from home with Pearson VUE’s online proctoring. The exam takes 240 minutes with two 10-minute breaks, so the online option needs a private room, a webcam and power and internet you can rely on for over four hours.

✦
Load-shedding risk: if you take the exam online, use a UPS, keep a mobile data hotspot ready and run Pearson VUE’s system test first. If your power supply is unreliable, book a test centre instead.
